Not knowing the courses to register online for every semester
This mistake is common to every first-year student. How do you know the courses to register for when you are new to the university? Every first-year student will do a clearance, it is during this clearance that the faculty of your department/course will provide a handbook for you. In the handbook, you will find all the courses you'll offer throughout your stay at the university. Before you proceed to course registration make sure that all the courses, you're registering for are listed under your department in the handbook. Write the courses down or carry the handbook to the cybercafe or if you're using your phone to register make sure it tallies with what you have in the handbook.
Not checking the previous semester's results
Before you register for any course online, first you have to make sure you check your previous semester's results. You're checking your results to know if there is any course you failed. If there is then you have to check if that particular course is for the first semester or the second semester so you can register it accordingly. What I meant by registering it accordingly is that, if a course you failed is a first-semester course then you will have to register it in the next session first semester and if it is a second-semester course then you'll register it in the second semester next session.
Registering for a prerequisite course without passing the previous one
A prerequisite course is a course that is required or necessary for you to pass before you can register for another course. Let’s say there is a prerequisite course you registered for in the first year, you have to pass it to register for the one that follows it in the second year. For this kind of course, you will have to be very studious to pass it because if you don’t pass it then you will have to reregister/rewrite the course before you can move on to register for the one that follows it. Do not register the one that follows it without passing the previous one.
Not registering for the Elective courses required
Most probably every department has elective courses, most especially students in the combined department. To avoid the mistake of not registering for an elective course that is required of you in a semester, make sure to read and use your handbook during the registration to avoid making a mistake.
Not registering failed Borrowed courses
Most times it's not the course we aspire to study that we end up studying. So, most times we borrow courses in order to change the department/course to the one you want to study. For every course, you borrowed and registered you must pass it if not you won't graduate. Sometimes students think that since is a borrowed course it doesn't affect them, it does because you must pass it. So, before you borrow any course make sure you pass the course even if you won't end up changing course again. Do not forget you borrowed a course maybe you are already in your final year and you borrowed a course in the first year reregister the course and make sure to pass it.
Not having a printout after registration
After every registration for the course in the semester, print it out as proof of registration because most times you will be asked to submit it for manual registration. So, you have to print it out.
Not completing their course registration manually
The University of Nigeria Nsukka is stress loving institution, course registration does not end online. In as much as you have done your online course registration, it does not end there. Here your course registration printout is very important. For some departments, you may have to submit the printout to your course adviser, then to the HOD (Head of Department) and the faculty officer for signing individually. Although some departments do it collectively, where everyone will submit to the class/course representative then from them it will get to the offices mentioned above for signing. So, make sure during your manual course registration that you do everything that is required of you, especially the signing, and do it when everybody is doing it.
Not checking online for course approval
After every course registration, it is important that you login after some time to check the approval of the courses you have registered, you're doing that to know if the courses they approved are tallied with the ones you have registered.
Not keeping the approved/signed printouts;
It is advised to keep the signed/approved course registration printout. Every student is supposed to have a file where he/she keeps all her documents. It is essential to keep every document not just the course registration form intact and safe.
